AVAILABLE POODLES
Logan: Logan is a cream, male, 5 1/2 years old, 65 pounds, neutered, micro chipped, up to date on shots and obedience trained. He came from a breeder in Shilo, Iowa, who is no longer in business. The owner is Lisa who is in the Greater Milwaukee area. If we can find a good forever home for Logan, Lisa is willing to drive him to his new home. This is the situation. Lisa has three standard poodles, two are rescue. There is an electronic fence around their property. The neighbor dog charged one of the younger rescue poodles; Logan broke through the electronic fence and defended his family from the intruder. he neighbors are insisting that they "get rid" of Logan. They have had Logan since he was eight weeks old. Their vet suggested they try to place him and not put him down as there was not reason to put him down - his behavior was self-defense. This is the first and only incident they have had with Logan. He gets along with children very well - has never been around cats. Lisa is willing to take Logan back if he goes to a family and it does not work out. Possible placement, but until finalized entertaining inquiries.
Sarge: Sarge is a 2 year old, cream, male standard poodle. He needs to be neutered. He had his hips x-rayed so the breeder in Fort Madison, IA, could have him OFA Certified but the hip xray came back as Mild Hip Dyplasia. Although he shows no signs of having any problems and could possibly never have any major problems later on in life, he can not be a stud poodle. The breeder wants to make sure he goes to a home that is willing to feed him a high quality food that will support his joints for a lifetime. He is young and has been diagnosed early and has a good chance at a quality life if in the right hands. He is kennel trained and very attentive to whoever is walking him. He loves the breeders children who are all boys (6 year old twins and a 10 year old), He is very gentle. He will bark if he needs to. He can be aloof with strangers, mostly men or when in a fenced area, but never aggressive. He is mostly around women and children. The breeder has tried to get him to fetch but he is more interested in cuddles. He would make a nice therapy dog.
PLACEMENTS
Romeo: Romeo went to Claudia in Lombard, IL. Romeo is a male, cream, one year old, 50 pound, standard, up-to-date on shots, not neutered, good with cats, small dogs, and children. He came from Champagne, IL., and was surrendered due to illness in the family and a taxing work schedule. Romeo joins his brother
Chip and sister. Claudia writes;Romeo is doing great in his new home. He spends his day playing with his new brother and running in the yard. He does have springs for legs and jumps over everything. He seems very happy. He is eating well and seems to have adjusted to the cats. When I asked what his new sister
thought, Claudia wrote: As with all dogs she is too funny. She has looked at me and pretty much says "Really mom another one! Fine I'm going to sleep on the sofa until you apologize." and that is about her thoughts.
Jane:Jane went to Susan in River Forest, IL. Jane is a female, 4 1/2 years old, 65 pounds, standard, needs rabies shots, spayed, good with kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes. Chases cars. Was surrendered due to new born and financial hardship. At first had some medical issues but now Susan wrote: Jane is working out really well. The vet gave her a clean bill of health. She is very different from my Lance (and Callie who is gone now). Jane's left front paw turns in a little bit, but the vet manipulated the heck out of it and didn't get so much as a squeak out of her, so we'll just watch it and see how things develop as she ages. Jane is a very funny dog, loves her walks like crazy and she does a happy dance every time I pick up her harness and leash. We had a little problem at first with the feeding, but I have put her on a diet of dehydrated raw and chicken so she seems to be eating more regularly and going potty three times a day like any good poodle should. Her stools don't seem to be painful to pass anymore on the soft diet, either. My kids love her and my 23 year old Sara watches TV with Jane cuddled up in her lap. She seems to be getting along with Lance. There have been a few growls here and there from Jane directed towards Lance. As soon as they happen, I quick get my clicker and we do obedience exercises. She definitely needs obedience work, but it's coming along nicely as she is a poodle and very smart. When I leave the house to go to work, I put Jane in the kitchen which is gated off from the area that Lance is in. I must say I could not be happier.
UPDATES
Cooper: Cooper was adopted by Karen in Deerfield in May 2011. Karen sent a picture of him and the kids. She writes: Hes a wonderful dog and hes adapted beautifully to our home. We start formal obedience training in January. He is basically very well behaved right now, but he seems to want to learn more.
Puddles: Puddles was adopted by Tim and Tara in Riverside in May 2011. Puddles is with his new sister Hope enjoying some quiet time.
Katie: Katie, an 8 year old, female, gray, standard is being fostered by club member Ursula Hoeft. Ursula writes: Just for information at this time, we are now "fostering" the silver standard that I called you about. Her owner died
suddenly and there were no family members to take her. Her name is Katie and she is 8 years old. She was a mess when we picked her up last Wednesday night. Judging by the way she was groomed, she had been well taken care of in the past, but now her hair was long and matted, her nails were horribly long - and she was filthy! She had dirt clinging to her muzzle, which seemed strange. I was told that she had been eating garbage while she was in the apartment with her deceased owner - police didn't know how long the woman had been dead - which probably was why her face was so dirty. As you can imagine, I couldn't get her groomed fast enough. Luckily, our groomer was able to fit her in the next day. After a thorough bath and grooming Katie now looks like a poodle should look - beautiful. Katie also is amazingly well behaved - a real sweetheart! In the few days that she has been with us she has become well acclimated to our house, our routines, and us. She seems to have had some obedience training and is quick to catch on to new things. My husband and I are growing very fond of her. It seems that nothing can be done about a permanent home for Katie until her deceased owner's estate is settle. Dogs, after all, are property. There seem to only be two sons who most likely won't want her, but we probably won't know for sure for another month. I'm just curious right now, because we may keep her, but what are chances of finding a good home for an 8-year-old standard? I should mention, too, that we spoke with her vet and learned that she is current on her shots and, according to their records of her exams, is in good health. The picture is of Katie, of course, and our dog Gus. It turns out that she is twice his size. She weighs 40 pounds while he weighs 20.
Macey: Macey has been listed for several months. Although we have found three different, wonderful forever families who wish to adopt Macey, the surrendering family has not been receptive to placement with any of the families. After a long discussion with the owners, I do not believe they are ready to surrender their poodle; therefore, I am removing Macey from our available poodle list. Macey was female, 3 years old, 12 pounds, apricot miniature, up-to-date on shots, heartworm free, spayed, good with kids, playful, loves to run. Being surrendered due to financial reasons. In Lemont IL.
Emmitt and Abby: Last month Emmitt and Abby were listed as available and needing a placement. After multiple attempts at reaching the surrendering family with no call backs, I am assuming that they are no longer available for placement.
